Gravure Printing
This printing techinique, similiar to intaglio printing, uses printing plates with recessed areas of cells which from the printed image. The printing plate comes into direct contact with the substrate. The depth and size of the recessed cells determines the amount of ink that is transferred to the substrate. Very fluid and rapidly drying inks are used. This also allow inks to be printed on top of one another. The cell structure may sometimes be seen.
