Letterpress Printing
Printing technique in which the printing areas are raised, similar to a stamp. It is one of the oldest printing techniques. Characteristic features are recesses pressed into the substrate and a thick, sharply defined rim of ink around the printed image, slightly separated from the main body of the character, called ink squash. In security documents letterpress printing is often used for printing sequential numbers such as serial numbers.
